Why is the American Eagle Coin So Popular

August 17, 2008 · Print This Article

The renowned American Eagle Coins, also known as the American Eagle Bullion Coins, have been issued basically for collectors. That means they cannot be sold for commercial purposes. For a bank or brokerage firm to be able to even sell one of these spectacular rare coins, it must first get approval from the United States Mint or any other establishment.

They were basically designed to add value to an investor's portfolio and physical amounts of gold, silver, and platinum into their investments. These beautiful rare coins are of the highest quality and are the best selling investment in America. With America's constant fluctuating economy, they have become a solid investment, and since their issue date in 1986 their popularity has flourished.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the "Gold Confiscation Act" in 1933, which made it illegal to own gold, thus putting an end to all circulation and private possession of any United States gold. However, during the presidency of President Richard Nixon, which was in the early 1970's, the right to own gold was finally restored. In 1986, the Gold American Eagle program was authorized by President Ronald Reagan, which once again began the process of minting non-commemorative gold coins for collectors.

The American Gold Eagle Coin has definitely become the most demanded gold coin of its time, which come in $5, $10, $25, and $50 face value, but because of the rarity of the $25 Gold Eagle it has become one of the most collectible. The United States Congress has even deemed it legal that these coins can qualify as true investments through a personal IRA plan, and the United States Government guarantees that each Gold Eagle is .9167 (22-karat) in gold purity, which is the purest gold coin in the history of the United States. Not to mention that the gold that goes into these astonishing coins must be mined from inside the United States by law.

In 2006, the United State Mint released a limited edition commemorative set celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Gold and Silver American Eagle Coins. This set included a $50 Gold Eagle and a $1 Silver Eagle both uncirculated and bearing the West Point "W" mint mark. They both had their familiar designs with some unique features added on the obverse while the reverse field had been brilliantly frosted, which has made this set enormously popular with collectors and quickly sold out to add even more popularity to the American Eagle Coins.

These coins have attracted the collectors everywhere with its version of "Legislative Muse" in 2006. This astonishing coin shows the muse looking away from the law that she has just inscribed as she is seated between the two bodies of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate, represented by Corinthian columns.

There are also several other fast moving and popular coins. Next time when you think of buying a collectible item you can also go for one of these.
